Prince George Attends His First Polo Match!

Royal fans were a little disappointed we didn't catch a glimpse of Prince George at Trooping The Colour yesterday. Much to everyone's surprise the ten-month-old joined his mother Kate to support Prince William and Prince Harry at a polo match today.

The royals were at Cirencester Park Polo Club where the princes took part in the annual Jerudong Trophy Polo Match. The match raised funds for William's patronage Centrepoint; The Prince is very dedicated and  participated last year when the birth of George was imminent.

George enjoyed crawling around and grabbed a mallet.

I thought it a lovely touch for Kate and George to support William today as it's Father's Day. The Duchess has been noticeably absent from polo matches thus far in 2014, so it's wonderful to see the family together in a more informal setting than we have previously.

At a recent engagement, Kate revealed George was starting to walk and the energetic tot looked very eager to explore the polo grounds as he wriggled away from his mother.

Taking the first of many steps on the polo ground. No doubt George will follow in his father's footsteps and participate in the future.

Attending William's polo matches is something of a tradition for Kate, who missed last year's games because she was pregnant. When the couple were in the early years of their relationship the matches provided some of the earliest photos of them together.

Kate showed George a ball much to his delight.

Kate blew William a kiss (confirmed by a royal photographer who was there). A very sweet gesture!

Prince William's team were victorious over Prince Harry's. They both appeared to thoroughly enjoy the day.

Both mother and baby were in stripes today.

Kate looked casual and chic in her Breton Top by London-based brand Me + Em. The £48 lyocell cotton top features a scoop neckline, 3/4 length sleeves and ruched detailing to the bottom hem. The Duchess teamed the nautical top with light-blue skinny jeans - most likely by J Brand.

Me + Em

The Duchess selected her Sebago Bala boat shoes for today's event, a comfortable choice which suited her outfit today, and most importantly a practical choice for carrying a boisterous little boy around :)

Sebago

The Duchess opted for minimum accessories and jewellery, choosing her Cartier Watch.

Cartier

And her Givenchy 'Obsedia' sunglasses.

Prince George's gorgeous dungarees will be familiar to those who followed the royal tour. The tot first wore them when the royal trio departed New Zealand.

George's $51 red stripe overalls are by Neck and Neck. The brand has a store at Duke of York Square and it's quite likely Kate purchased them there. The Prince wore a white top underneath the dungarees, and his Early Days Pre-Walker shoes.

Neck and Neck

Wishing a very Happy Father's Day to all the dad's and granddad's out there. We'll see you tomorrow for the Order of the Garter ceremonies.

  1. This puts the horse allergy question to rest!

    1. I'd like to see Kate encourage George to pet some polo ponies. I read that the Queen got ponies and had Charles and Anne taught to ride almost as soon as they could walk. I'm sure William and Harry got an early start, too.

    2. I think so too, Eve. He'll need to keep up with his cousin, Mia, as well. You know she'll be in a saddle as soon as she's big enough. Besides, there's not much more peaceful than mucking out your horse's paddock while he throws your jacket in the mud! The royals probably don't do much mucking, though.

    3. I am sure someone more knowledgeable will correct me, but these past two days on this blog are the very first I've heard of HRH's allergy to horses. I do believe it was the late Princess of Wales who claimed the terrible allergy to horses, although I've always suspected that was down to a great love of ballet or a greater allergy to then Mrs. Parker-Bowles, who hunted with the Beaufort, as did the Prince of Wales. Methinks we can put the Duchess' apparent lack of riding skills down to lack of stabling (I do believe people think of her family as having rather more means than they had when she was growing up; do remember she was raised in a small attached house, which certainly was no Park House, let alone Althorp). At a polo match one can be as close to or as far from the ponies as one likes - Diana used to sit in a chair rather removed from the action, "in the gallery" - whereas these shots show Catherine and Prince George in with the ponies and horse boxes - the very best tell is in photos two and three, George is not playing with a toy mallet! So the Duchess is clearly not afraid for herself or her child in any way. Bravo Charlotte, all your coverage has been fabulous, especially the context for each event on the Australia and New Zealand tour, the incredibly moving D-Day coverage, and all the history and translation for the Trouping of the Colour, down to the aerial graph for the Fly Past. We who devour, whether we comment or not, salute you, as we prepare for the Garter tomorrow, and Royal Ascot to come.

    4. Didn't realize I had to research the medical aspects of allergens before posting, philly. Please excuse my obvious ignorance of allergies. Having just now started to suffer from them, I will defer to your obvious extensive knowledge.

Eve and I were chatting about horses. A love we share. Parenting advice doesn't come into it at all, and as I am not a parent I wouldn't even start. Perhaps you might remove that wet blanket you appear to be wearing. It's really weighing you down.

    6. Philly, the allergy to horses debate has been around for a while now. Bluhare can correct me, but I took her remark more as a defense of Kate (against all the guessing and theories) and not a dismissal of people who suffer from allergies.

    7. OMG people why do you always have to find something wrong. This was a day that Catherine took George out to see his daddy play polo. And you start attacking people for a comment they mentioned regarding an allergy supposely Cahrerine has for horses. Nothing has ever been confirm regarding this. So all you people are doing is fighting over nothing.

bluehare sorry you were attacked for making a staement that you have seen around here for many months.

    9. Its funny, not as I'm haha but as in ironic, I felt that Bluhare original comment as being sarcastic. So to me Philly was defending Kate, in her way. Also, to me, it seems Bluhare was on the attack for saying Philly is a wet blanket.
Alas, this is the problem with written decision instead of verbal, things are interpreted in the wrong way.

Sorry Pandora, you're wrong. It's Kate who has been said to be allergic to horses. It's mentioned in several books about her. Diana was never said to be allergic to horses, she was frightened of horses after falling off her pony as a child and breaking her arm. During her marriage she was seen out riding with the queen, albeit rather uncomfortably so. Later she had lessons from a certain Hewitt who helped her get over her fears. Infatuation is a wonderful thing.

Kate on the other hand has been said to be allergic to horses in a number of books. No explanation given for how she manages at polo - could be jabs, who knows, but it certainly has never stopped her from attending matches. But her allergy was one of the reasons put forth for why cars were used at the beginning of the wedding. It also may have been meant to keep the wedding more low-key. Still, if Kate is allergic, she might be very anxious about having an attack on her wedding day with the world watching, while problems at a polo match would not be a big issue.

For whoever asked, Marge or Bluhare I think, Andrew and Sarah did indeed have the full array of carriages when they got married. Yours Truly was going to go spend the night out and watch for the procession but decided she really did liked being employed and so passed on the occassion. By the time, Edward and Sophie married, things were very different for the royal family and the wedding was relatively quiet by royal standards. I do think there were carriages used at Windsor but can't quite remember.

Don't see any problem in discussing this, but I'm sure we're all enjoying seeing Kate out with George. The photo of her blowing a kiss to William is wonderful. Only Lupo is missing but it would have been a lot for Kate to look after both. Kate looks fabulous in casual clothes, and thank goodness no wedges, would love to see her in Pretty Ballerinas as in the past, but Sebagos are next best thing. Like Jackie Kennedy, I think Kate looks wonderful in formal clothes but may be at her best in casual clothes.

    11. Well, well, well. This is getting quite funny. All I did was ask a question: How did this post put the allergy question to rest? Or something to that effect. Then I explained a little about how allergies work--and that they could also make people look tired. No big deal.

Since that post has mysteriously vanished I can't recall how I put it exactly. However, it was not an attack on bluhare--who can be quite twitchy about these things as the subsequent huffy little bit about deference to my "obvious extensive knowledge" (which is really quite common) reveals.

Oh dear, is a question an attack and are defenders required? I guess here--for some people it is. Ladies, ladies, perhaps we should all pour a stiff one--or a cuppa--and chill a little. Anyway, thanks for the laugh. It's all highly amusing.

    12. Esti, I think Bluhare and I were just trying to be amusing. Anon from Leo, you are quite right about the late Princess' broken arm. I had quite forgot that, and certainly had never read the Duchess was allergic to horses, so the honours are yours. I suppose I do still, perhaps naively, like to think that Diana took herself off to Major Hewitt with every intention of bettering her equestrian skills as one of her several "last ditch" attempts at "saving" her long past saving marriage, but you've summarised the result of that better than I could do as well.

    13. EVE. Fear not!
There are photos circulating of Kate and William nose to nose with one of the ponies.
      And guess what?
Kate's encouraging young George to have a pat.
He doesn't seemed too concerned about the animal.
Evidently, he's accustomed to being around them.

    16. Wow, what did I miss? I'm on my 4th day of working 7 days straight, so haven't had time to check on my dear friends, and look what happens? :(

Eve, I hope you are doing alright and hope and pray you feel better very soon.

That picture of little PG grabbing the polo mallet (he is so adorable), to me he looks so much like his father in that one. I do see the hint of ginger in his hair, but I don't think he is going to keep it, I could be wrong though.

I love that Kate brought lil George to watch his father play polo, although it looks like he loved playing with everything he could get his hands on instead. I really hope they get him used to horses as well. I have a feeling with PW as his dad ans PH as his uncle (and they both ride magnificantly) he will be learning to ride in a few years, maybe less.

I also thought Kate looked a little on the thin side, but not dangerously so. I noticed in one picture you can really tell her legs are very toned. She has the body of an athelete, IMO. So I don't think it is something to fret about.

Oh bluhare, I did that research for you, about Prince Harry. Just let me know when you want it ;)

Back to work, take care all.

Happy Fathers Day all (fathers)- HRH looks great today, rested and bless her, now we see another reason she is still dropping pounds- that little fella is B.U.S.Y.! once he is actually walking there will be no stopping him. Love the casual look and as previously mentioned I would it would be great to see HRH in more long pants- not necessarily jeans although she can certainly carry the look off. Congrats to PW and his winning team.

She clearly loves her son and knows when he may get himself into trouble if she does not keep a close eye on him. So, for me, congratulations. They clearly are loving parents, only consigning their son to a nanny when royal duties are called for. If we do not see her for longer than we wish, we know she is lovingly raising her son away from the camera's prying eyes. I commend them.

I have friends who live in clothes like this all the time.
I on the other hand feel terribly uncomfortable in jeans and prefer to get about in skirts/dresses even for casual events.

  26. My father is allergic to horses, and this was a problem when courting my mother as she was quite fond of them and had two. He took a strong antihistamine for years, which allowed him to get closer, but not to ride.

About 10 years ago they located a breed that is hypoallergenic, and are happily enjoying their horses, together, in retirement. They're beautiful companions, and riding is so therapeutic.

Great job, Charlotte! Kudos to you for the past several posts in a row. It is SUCH fun to see little Georgie. All the shots show his energy level is very high. (If I were watching him full time, I would be skinny!!!!) It's obvious that he is Kate's full-time job; these photos show a very natural level of involvement and awareness that would probably be missing if this were not the case. I second the idea that if we don't see a lot of Kate while George is young, I will take comfort in the idea that he is getting the very best childhood experience possible.

I noticed the redish hair too. Since it is a Spencer family trait I'm not surprised to see it. I'd say Will and Kate have their hands full with Mr. George. There were some pictures on another site that showed him having a little meltdown. I remember those days, my daughter had meltdowns all the time. I know if I'd had my daughter first I might never have had another child. :) Both Will and Kate have said that George has not been an easy baby so I imagine that he's not the easiest of toddlers either. It's great to see Kate handling it so well.

Thanks, Charlotte, for these really cute pictures, all of them!! George really seems to be quite energetic, it certainly is a tricky job to keep such a lively toddler safe at a polo match, but it was lovely to see them together like a "normal" family....

Kate looked so relaxed and happy and very much in her element, it was wonderful to see..... She is so incredibly skinny, though. My daughter very rarely comments on pictures of Kate - but today she reacted quite strongly and said: "Kate doesn´t look like George´s mother at all". I questioned her, of course, how she meant it and she replied "She looks so terribly skinny you would never think she´s ever had a baby. Even those skinny jeans are kind of "loose" on her." That kind of threw me. I´m glad that my daughter is totally immune to any outside influences, be it fashion or any celebrities or whatever. She´s happy the way she is and would never ever even dream of loosing weight or change in any other way in hope of "being loved" or "acknowledged"... Unfortunately, I know that a lot of women can´t feel that way and take celebrities like Kate as a "role model" - desperately hoping some kind of happiness will come into their lives if they were just "as skinny as..... ". I just hope we all teach our daughters that they are PERFECT just the way they are and that being skinny will not solve one single problem in their life....
I am not criticising the Duchess here, I want to emphasize that.

  33. Kate's absent from the Garter Service due to sinusitis as reported by the BBC.
She did look off colour lately.
And from personal experience, sinusitis can give you horrific headaches. Similar to migraines.
    Hope she's on the mend.

    1. Oh, Helen , how right you are!
I'm a mazed that Kate was even upright! The Queen sometimes ended up in bed for a few days with sinusitis in the past. It's excruciating!
(I hope that my ironic remarks about the "kind" words of a post were NOT agreeing , but reproving. The tone of that post was hateful.)

    2. Check this with Dr. Helen-( ie- Mr bluhare).... sinusitis is a dangerous condition, requiring antibiotics. Because of the location close to the brain, it can have serious consequences. As you said, Helen, it is also miserable. I have stories I could tell about childhood and young adult bouts with sinusitis involving hoses and pumps, but I will spare you.
I would appreciate no snarky responses from the general blog public about possible brain consequences I may have incurred. ha!
I could ask my-brother-the-doctor, but your husband is already involved in a way and besides it's more fun.
And, yet again, there go the twins.

    3. I had a bad case of it once. Beloved said he'd never seen anyone so ill. Flat on my back in a dark, quiet room...my four cats stayed with me making full body contact for all three days (and they didn't all get along). They guarded and comforted so faithfully that it's what I remember the most about it. On the fourth morning , when I opened my eyes, I realized it had passed...they knew it , too and jumped off the bed, resuming normal life as if nothing at all had interrupted it

    4. After learning that Scotch is sniffed, I wonder if it can cause sinusitis?

    5. I think it was Camilla that is absent from the garter ceremony.

Marg, I know what your talking about, yes, it can be very painful. I already suffer from migraines (for 10 years now) and I got sinusitis on top of that once. I could barely get up out of bed to use the restroom.

And I agree, so much for twins lol.

    6. I believe Camilla is prone to upper respiratory illnesses? I seem to remember reading about how Charles has urged her into the Royal Family's passion for homeopathy to treat her frequent attacks, while all realize the role more modern medicine plays in overcoming infection. I hope it was caught quickly, and that she doesn't suffer long.

The Queen Mother was very prone to almost seasonal bouts of flu, bronchitis and in a few cases pneumonia. I'm nearly through her official biography, and it amazes me how she lived such a long life!

  34. "Prince George's gorgeous dungarees will be familiar to those who followed the royal tour. The tot first wore them when the royal trio departed New Zealand." It was actually when they left Australia, therefore their last appearance from the tour.

  35. I wasn't going to say this, but I have changed my mind (lol). For the record, I have nothing against Sophie's father being included today (he is quite a bit and that's nice), but could you imagine the reaction if one of the Middleton's was there? It would be the end of the monarchy as we know it.

  36. Love it, although I wish Kate would wear more than just jeans and a navy on white stripped t-shirt for the majority of her "casual" appearances.

  37. Everybody else noticed that too, anon. They just realize how much Charlotte has given us, especially lately, and let it go.Sometimes we forget -this isn't the London . Times and Charlotte doesn't have copyreaders and editors at her beck and call. Need I raise the spector of the DM to further make my point?
I am sure you were just trying to be helpful ,but I am a loyal Charlotte fan and had to say something.

    1. It is confusing when the comment one is responding to is removed, as happened with my above post.

    2. What is confused is this tired old brain. I would swear that anon comment wasn't there yesterday. I have succeeded in bringing more attention to the subject than if I had said nothing.

  38. I enjoy Kate best in her casual look. It was so good to see her in blue jeans that had pockets. What a treasure to see little George at his father and uncle's polo match. Thank you to both parents for allowing us to see George taking walking steps at so young an age. This event was such a treat.

I have no doubts that someone or several from the royal family are reading Charlotte's high class blog. Thank you Charlotte.

  39. Oooh I love all of the pics of George, Charlotte!

It's lovely to see a family being a family and doing family things, and they look happy.

Now onto the clothes, I am beyond tired of this same outfit. I don't care that she occasionally changes out the shoes, there has got to be something else in her closet besides the blue skinny jeans and blue striped shirt. Please, Kate, Please....change it up once in a while..I beg of you!!!

Okay, with that of my chest, have a lovel day :-)
